Higher Ground
– by David Elias

I feel the rain come in
The smell before the wind
Leaves fold down those pale green crowns
Yima Yima Yai

I watch the river rise
Both forks are snake eyes wise
Set me down on higher ground
Yima Yima Yai

I’m back where I came from
The trees the old deer run
Worn out trails
Tuck tired tails
Yima Yima Yai

I’ll meet you up the hill
Your hair it’s falling still
Lay me down on higher ground
Yima Yima Yai

Those nights were cold and clear
And every star hung near
Reaching round for higher ground
Yima Yima Yai

You Roll Right On
– by David Elias

Coastal waves of inspiration all you have is meditation
Trees of fire burn the choir singing for their salvation
Hints of glamour girls enamored with their own afflictions
Situations complications never mind the contradictions

You roll right on
You roll right on
You roll right on
As you roll right by
You roll right on

Memories of disenchantment paying back the conversation
All you owe is paid in full the rest is just hallucination
Early water Sunday’s daughter ran away no hesitation
Where she goes nobody knows, hell to pay in moderation

You roll right on
You roll right on
You roll right on
As you roll right by
You roll right on

Acupuncture found the juncture in between the constellations
Heaven knows those bodies glow when forced away from contemplation
Witness this with mortal bliss the Gods can’t touch our incarnation
And after all is said and done
You wind up back where you begun
Everlasting peace will mark the end of our emancipation

You roll right on
You roll right on
You roll right on
As you roll right by you roll
As you roll right by you roll
As you roll right by you roll
Right on

Changing Down – Kilauea Halema’uma’u Lava Lake

The changes to the erupting Kilauea volcano in 2018 are both unpredictable and full of color along with collapsing crater walls, explosions, earthquakes and lava fissures and flows. This song sings to all of that as well as some of its metaphors for all of us in life’s crazy adventures.

David Elias and Charlie Naztke created this composition at Slipperworld.net in La Honda, Calif. It is the work of the duo recording all tracks then mixed by Charlie and mastered by David. Hoy Hoy.

The song and video went online at YouTube a couple years back. Now you can get the Free audio download (use $0.00 price) and streaming on Bandcamp:

Changing Down – by David Elias

See my cup go flowing
See my cup go running over
See my cup go flowing down

See my colors changing
See my red go into white
See my colors changing down

More than this I can’t say how
Everything else changing
There’s still a light above your brow
Everything else changing down

See the rest I’m taking
Rest comes easy outside harm’s way
See the rest I’m taking down

See the walls they’re closing
Close to this I can’t say how
See the walls they’re closing down

More than this I can’t say how
Everything else changing
There’s still a light above your brow
Everything else changing down

The Ghost of Tom Joad – Video

Some things are just spiritual I don’t know what that even means but I know how it feels. The Springsteen cover recording of his monstrous song “The Ghost of Tom Joad” is from 2004 playing San G. with Charlie Natzke (other guitar) and Chris Kee (upright bass). The YouTube video is from today’s meanderings I made without moving around too much at all. The graphic of the coast was created from a photo I took long ago at Montara beach just a couple hours up the Hwy 1 from Steinbeck’s Cannery Row in Monterey… So it goes.

An Empty Seat (for Tom Petty, 1950 – 2017)

Written and Recorded with Video created for Tom Petty, 1950-2017. He hasn’t left me at all. It was always like he was right there in the car with us. Not just on the radio or cassette or CD but he was with us too. A buddy in the car. Easy Peasy. I do miss you TP. Aloha and Namaste.

get in the back seat
we’ll make room
headin up the street
a wasted afternoon
you wore your hair neat
but you never groomed
grew up in the south’s heat
you always kept your cool
now there’s a back seat
in this house of lights
now there’s an empty seat
in this house of lights
now there’s an empty seat

I also play and sing’s Tom Petty’s “Learning to Fly” anthem in a self-produced video recognizing his mentor’s greatness, with a humble ukelele passage recorded spontaneously at the time of his death announcement and woven into the final bars of the video:

New Christmas Video and 2016 Sampler

From the brand new David Elias – Christmas 2016 Sampler (Format Agnostic!) playlist online at http://davidelias.bandcamp.com

Preview and Download Online

Lots of hard to find and hard to reach or capture on film places on the Big Island in Hawaii visited here including the peaks of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea (with snow!), remote beaches at the bottom of steep Pali’s, and the rare explosive Lava Lake that appeared for a few weeks last year on Kilauea Volcano at the Halema’uma’u Crater.

“Christmas 2016 Sampler” is a format agnostic playlist of originals that were created using everything from a stock iPhone, to 2 mics setup in the room at a band studio rehearsal, to the house board at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall, to a single stereo mic in front of the band performing in a pub/hall, to the uber quality Sonoma DSD workstation from SuperAudioCenter.com.

Careful recording, mixing and mastering allow wide varieties of sources to all co-reside on albums and playlists.

You can preview and download the 10-track Sampler here:

Eclipse this… and 60% off Discography (24-bit HD and 16-bit CD masters)

Happy Holidaze. . .

Well it’s a thankful time as a reminder at least, if not more. I was up in the middle of the night again and found a way to put my entire Discography online at Bandcamp (BC) as a one-time purchase at a big discount.

You get the downloads in any or all of the BC digital formats: 16/24-bit FLAC (PCM lossless masters), ALAC (lossless) and MP3 (320k). Buying the downloads as my Full Digital Discography also gets you unlimited streaming of all these tracks anytime forever from the Bandcamp pages. They are arranged nicely by album and very easy to play continuously.

Hey you can also give it to someone as a gift!

Take a look:  http://davidelias.bandcamp.com

When you click the link, scroll down until you see “Full Digital Discography” and that’s it. It looks like this:

bc-discography-60-elias2

I have 12 albums and singles up there right now including “Crossing”, “The Window”, “Acoustic Trio”, “Slipper Sessions” (all 24/88.2 PCM downloads from the DSD masters) as well as my released CD masters of “Lost in the Green”, “Time Forgets”, “Half an Hour Away” and “The Blue Planet”. There are also some singles there you won’t find anywhere else!

The Discography now is exactly 60% off what the download albums cost individually. That’s the holidaze part. Reply to this message if you have questions I can help with.

Part 2 of this email is the Eclipse part which is a 1080p video I made of the lunar eclipse on October 8, 2014 from here on the Big Island (where there’s no light pollution…at all).

You can see all 3 minutes of this video (my attention span has now shrunk to be in the optimal hit single range of around 3 minutes or less) on YouTube at this link:

https://youtu.be/bFiXzSniF8M

The instrumental soundtrack is my song “Inverness” from “The Blue Planet” CD. If you haven’t heard it you might not recognize me in there cause I just play a single keyboard/synth in a single take. But that’s me and as you can tell the music wasn’t written out.

Here’s a still shot I took of the Blood Moon that night:

Blood Moon Eclipse by David Elias, 10-8-2014, Hawaii

Have a wonderful holiday
and time off everything that’s anything “out there” and a good time with everything that’s “in there” with any and all loved ones who “are there”.

Aloha!
